New strategy of the VCF

not to stop all releases completely but to CONTINUE WITH A FOCUS ON BIRDS DERIVING FROM RARE OR NEW FOUNDER LINES with the goal to increase the genetically variation in the new established Alpine subpopulation.
Following this goal new release sites in Switzerland and in Vercors have been established in 2010

Breeding network – zoo cooperation

1978 only 26 (15,11) founders available (deriving from Asia)
Only one reproducing pair (Alpenzoo Innsbruck).

Partly high age of the founder birds
Unknown sex
Methods of sex-determination insufficiently
Some founders imprinted
Some founders kept lonely for a long time

Up to now 34 founders with reproduction
(origin Asia, Pyrenees,
Balkan, Crete).

Among them some injured birds (Russia, Crete, Pyrenees)
